The Center for Food Safety (CFS) filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for allowing chemical companies to poison wildlife refuges by planting genetically modified (GM) crops and harmful pesticides, according to an article on SmallCap Network by Ashley Hernandez available here.
The Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), and Beyond Pesticides have joined CFS in the lawsuit. The groups claimed the FWS neglected to perform its job as described by law and failed to protect wildlife from chemical and biotechnology industries. The groups are asking the court to ban the planting of GM crops and spraying bee pesticides in all U.S. wildlife refuges.
Toxic poisons from pesticides are harmful to crops and animals, and they can also cause adverse effects on humans, because they are meant to kill living organisms.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that biologically based pesticides are increasing in popularity and safer than traditional chemical pesticides.
