Two consumer advocacy groups, The Center for Science in the Public Interest and Consumer Reports, petitioned the United States Department of Agriculture to prohibit certain claims about nitrates and nitrites on the labels of processed meat. The groups are urging the Department to require labels on processed meats stating if nitrates or nitrites have been added, with the source indicated on the ingredient list. Info here.
