Dr. Elisabeth Hagen, former USDA Under Secretary for Food Safety, will joint Deloitte & Touche LLP consumer products practice as a food safety senior advisor, according to a Farm Futures article available here.

Hagen will “advise Deloitte’s clients on food and product safety challenges, prevention-based policies and regulatory requirements.  She will also work with the firm’s strategy and communications.”

Hagen, who holds an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, officially announced her resignation from USDA on November 15.  In her three years as USDA Under Secretary for Food Safety, USDA adopted a new “zero-tolerance policy for additional strains of E. coli in beef” and adopted new standards for Salmonella and Campylobacter in poultry.  She was also instrumental in developing a new Public Health Information System to improve consumer information on proper food handling and food safety.

At Deloitte, Hagen will advise clients on regulatory requirements, food and product safety challenges, supply chain, trace back, prevention-based policies, strategy, and communications, according to an article by Food Safety News available here.

“Elisabeth will bring to Deloitte an impressive blend of regulatory level oversight and hands-on experience, stemming from her role as the highest ranking food safety official in the U.S.,” said Pat Conroy, vice chairman of Deloitte in a statement.
