The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the final rule that amended the color additive regulations to expand the permitted use of spirulina, an extract made from the dried biomass of the cyanobacteria Arthrospira platensis (A. platensis), as a color additive in food. The Federal Register notice is available here.
The final rule appeared in the April 11, 2014, Federal Registerand was made effective May 13, 2014.
