Golden Grain Energy, an Iowa ethanol company has been fined $10,000 by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for a fish kill which occurred in August, according to an article by the Globe Gazette available here.
According to the DNR, Golden Grain discharged “iron-laden” cooling water, causing the fish kill on Cheslea Creek. The discharge was “traced back to a tile outfall where” the facility releases the cooling water.
The DNR fined the company $10,000 in penalties and $650 in wildlife restitution. Golden Grain also agreed to “implement a facility-wide environmental management system.”
The Associated Press also reported on the story here.
