The National Agricultural Law Center would like to thank sponsors of the inaugural Western Agricultural & Environmental Law Conference. The conference was held on May 4-5, 2023 at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno, NV, with a livestream option available.
Supporters of the inaugural Western conference were a tremendous help not only to #NALCWestern23 but also to the NALC’s overall goal of expanding partners and outreach to ag industry stakeholders in the western states. All net proceeds (registrations plus sponsorships) from the conference were dedicated to supporting western-focused partners and outreach, including the Western Resources Legal Center.
The Western conference is designed for an audience of both attorney and non-attorney professionals involved in varying public and private aspects of the western agricultural industry. The inaugural conference featured presentations from experts during both the “Early Bird” online bonus CLE and main conference program.
The “Early Bird” program was livestreamed on April 19. It featured sessions on buying, selling, and financing agricultural properties, water law and ethics and the future of western agriculture and trade, the latter serving as the conference keynote.
The main conference program kicked off on May 4 with sessions on the 2023 Farm Bill, solar leasing, cannabis, the Endangered Species Act and the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act. The evening wrapped up with the “May the Fourth Be with You” Party on the Patio at the Peppermill. The networking opportunity featured beer, wine, hors d’oeuvres and great conversation.
On May 5, the excellent presentations continued with discussions on the Colorado River Basin, foreign ownership of agricultural land, Prop 65 and a few sessions on water law, including WOTUS.
“Our inaugural Western conference was a huge success,” NALC Director Harrison Pittman said. “We have received positive feedback on the great sessions as well as the excellent networking opportunity that the conference provided. It was great to make new connections and expand the outreach of the National Ag Law Center.”
Planning is underway for the 2024 Western conference.
“More information on next year’s conference will be coming soon,” Pittman said. “We’re excited to see both new and old friends at the 2nd annual event. The NALC is looking forward to continuing this excellent program in the years to come.”
The 2nd Annual Western Agricultural & Environmental Law Conference is tentatively set for June 20-21, 2024 in Reno, NV. Follow the NALC on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook for updates on the event.
