Western Agricultural and Environmental Law Conference

The agricultural industry in the western United States is uniquely impacted by changes and developments in state, federal, and international laws and policies. Additionally, many of those unique issues — water rights, ag labor and immigration, Proposition 12, Proposition 65, and many more — often more broadly impact the agricultural industry throughout the U.S. This inaugural program is part of a long-term effort by the National Agricultural Law Center to provide relevant and timely agricultural and environmental legal research and information to attorneys, lenders, land managers and farm appraisers, accountants, tax consultants, students, and other agricultural professionals involved in and impacted by the agricultural industry in the western U.S. The goal is to provide a premiere legal education program combined with networking opportunities that ultimately help strengthen the agricultural industry.

This conference will be held in person in Reno, Nevada, but will also be livestreamed online for attendees who are unable to attend in person. The main conference will feature 11 hours of continuing education, including one hour of Legal Ethics. Further, for participants who register before the “early bird” deadline of April 18, three “bonus hours” of online continuing education (including one hour of Legal Ethics) will also be available. All net proceeds from this program will be dedicated to support research and information activities focused on issues important to the western U.S., including the NALC’s Bridges Initiative. The Bridges Initiative is a student-focused, public-private partnership that offers professional development, networking, and increased legal knowledge to pre-college, undergraduate, and law students interested in agricultural and food law issues and/or careers. The overall goal of the Bridges Initiative is to help provide a legal-focused pipeline of talent into the agricultural and food industries while furthering the NALC national mission of serving as the nation’s leading source of agricultural and food law research and information. The Bridges Initiative includes a specific focus on minority students and others traditionally underrepresented in the agricultural and food law fields.

Continuing Education:

For the May 4th & 5th conference:

  • Legal- This program has been approved for 10 hours of CLE and 1 hour of ethics in Idaho, Nevada, and Utah. This program has been submitted for CLE, pending approval, in Arizona, California, and Oregon.
  • American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers: This program has been approved for CE.

For the “bonus” online CLE on April 19th: For participants who register before the “Early Bird” deadline of April 18, 3 “bonus hours” of online continuing education (including one hour of Legal Ethics) will also be available.
