In the past two years, more cattle producers have gained an interest in selling their products directly to the consumer. Recent data shows that 40% of producers have tried this marketing option. This webinar will provide an overview of the legal andeconomic issues that an operation should consider when engaging in direct beef sales. Topics covered will include slaughter facility selection, liability protection, budgeting, risk management tools, and more. Speakers will be Tiffany Dowell Lashmet and Dr. Justin Benavidez, both of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.

Presenters:
Tiffany Dowell Lashmet has served as an Agricultural Law Specialist for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service since 2013. Tiffany’s work focuses on legal issues impacting Texas landowners and agricultural producers including leases, water law, oil and gas law, pipeline easement negotiation, estate planning, and landowner liability. She travels the state speaking at various meetings and conferences on these issues and has published several law review articles, extension fact sheets, magazine articles, and newspaper articles on these topics.
Dr. Justin Benavidez is an Assistant Professor and Extension Economist in Amarillo who covers issues relating to the economics of agriculture in the Texas High Plains. He focuses on farm management economics pertaining to livestock and row crops, bio-economic modeling, farm policy, marketing, animal health, and water’s impact on agriculture. Justin is a member of the Agriculture and Applied Economics Association (AAEA), the Southern Agricultural Economics Association (SAEA), and the Western Agricultural Economics Association (WAEA). Justin grew up on a small family farm in Tulia, Texas, and received his bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University.
