Navigating ADA Compliance for Agritourism Guests

You will learn:

This presentation will provide an overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) within the context of agritourism operations and on-farm guests. Farmers and landowners who open their operations to the public are required to comply with ADA rules and ensure that their business is accessible to all guests. This presentation will cover relevant ADA requirements, including physical accessibility, transportation, and signage in relation to a farm setting. Special attention will be given to service animals and legal obligations for emotional support animals.

Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of their responsibilities under the ADA, as well as ideas for creating a more accessible environment for all visitors, ensuring a positive experience for everyone while avoiding potential legal pitfalls.

Jackie Schweichler, Penn State University, Center for Agricultural and Shale Law

Jackie Schweichler is a staff attorney at Penn State’s Center for Agricultural and Shale Law where she provides research and analysis on a variety of topics. Jackie’s research in agricultural law focuses on liability, agritourism, seed law, pesticides, and rural development. Jackie has provided presentations for the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention, the Pennsylvania Farm Show, and others. Jackie is the Director of Pennsylvania’s Agricultural Mediation Program, which provides mediation services for landowners throughout the state. Jackie received her bachelor’s degree from Edinboro University and her law degree from Penn State Dickinson Law.
