This year, more than many others, pesticide use and subsequent damage to neighboring crops has been an ongoing problem for producers across the country. For instance, based on complaints surrounding the use of a single pesticide, experts from the University of Missouri have estimated that over 3 million acres may potentially be affected. From regulatory issues to neighbor versus neighbor complaints, to state bans on application of certain products, there are numerous legal issues surrounding the regulatory approval process, application of products, and litigation when harm does occur. This webinar will feature Rusty Rumley and Tiffany Dowell Lashmet looking at many of the legal issues, from approval to use, currently facing producers and landowners across the country.

Tiffany Dowell Lashmet, Esq., J.D.

Tiffany Dowell Lashmet is an Assistant Professor & Extension Specialist in Agricultural Law with Texas A&M Agrilife Extension. Lashmet focuses her work on legal issues impacting farmers and ranchers, including water law, oil and gas law, eminent domain, right to farm litigation, leasing, farm protection statutes, and landowner liability. Prior to joining Texas A&M in 2013, Lashmet was in private practice at a civil litigation firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Lashmet grew up on her family’s farm and ranch in northeastern New Mexico. She attended Oklahoma State University, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Farm and Ranch Management. She then attended the University of New Mexico School of Law where she graduated summa cum laude and first in her class with her Juris Doctorate. She is licensed to practice in New Mexico and Texas.
Rusty Rumley B.S., J.D., LL.M.
National Agricultural Law Center
Rusty Rumley serves as a Senior Staff Attorney at the National Agricultural Law Center. He graduated magna cum laude from Oklahoma State University in 2004 with a B.S. in AgriBusiness and in 2007 earned his juris doctor from the University of Oklahoma. After law school, Rusty earned his LL.M in Agricultural Law at the University of Arkansas, and is licensed to practice law in the state of Oklahoma. Additionally, he has co-taught a course titled “Animals and Agricultural Production, Law and Policy” several times at the University of Oklahoma College of Law and most recently at the University of Nebraska College of Law and teaches an introduction to agricultural law course through the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, & Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas. His primary areas of interest are in estate planning, taxation, business organizations, landowner liability, leasing and agritourism.
