This webinar will explain the establishment and current role of the National Appeals Division in the broader scheme of agricultural conflicts with the USDA. Learn about the establishment of NAD and what authority NAD has to review cases. Topics to be covered include NAD as a final Department of Agriculture decision maker, what cases NAD can review and, more importantly, what cases NAD cannot review, the ins and outs of filing an appeal with NAD, NAD’s relief authority, and recovery of costs and fees.

Amanda M. Urbanek J.D., LL.M.

Deputy Regional Director, USDA-NAD

Amanda M. Urbanek is the Deputy Regional Director for the USDA National Appeals Division’s Southern Region located in Memphis, TN. She has been with the USDA since September 2010. Before joining the National Appeals Division she was an attorney in private practice with the law firm of Daniel Coker Horton & Bell, P.A., in Oxford, Mississippi. She received her B.A. and law degrees from The University of Mississippi (Oxford, MS) and her LL.M. in tax law from Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX). She spends her time at NAD speaking with producers and producer groups about appeal rights and supervising between 7 and 15 Southern Region Administrative Judges. In addition, she is an adjunct professor at The University of Mississippi School of Law where she teaches an Agricultural Law Practicum.
